About this Course

Please join us for a walk with naturalist Juliet Pendray, exploring fungi and lichen, learning about their interesting partnerships and ecologies, as well as some identification basics to help us get to know them better. We will look for lichen and spring mushrooms, growing from the soil and logs, from live trees and sun-warmed boulders, and examine their intricate and colourful shapes. An amazing diversity of life and complex ecologies exists in our region, often unnoticed in small spaces. Please dress warmly, as we will be moving fairly slowly. If you have your own handlens / magnifier, please bring it, and if you don’t, we will have some to loan. Please bring water and lunch/snacks. Transportation is provided, departure from Crystal Pool at event start time. The walk will be taking place at Devonian Park. Washroom facilities are available in the park, and the trail is considered easy to moderate.
